Organized by the Association for Conservation and Tourism (ACT) and supported by the Department of Tourism Government of West Bengal, the aim of this bird-watching festival is to promote sustainable tourism. With over three decades of grassroots conservation efforts, the festival aims to showcase North Bengal’s rich birding habitats to visitors and tourism entrepreneurs from India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
The second purpose of the Butterfly Meet and Asian Bird Festival is to harness the burgeoning potential of West Bengal, particularly North Bengal, as a premier destination for butterfly and bird enthusiasts. With its rich biodiversity and diverse habitats, including marshy wetlands, sandy riverbanks, forests, and hills, the region boasts a significant portion of India’s butterfly and bird species. The butterfly meet aims to bridge the tourism gap by connecting local entrepreneurs with tour operators and clubs, facilitating business links to enhance butterfly and bird tourism.
