About Kalpa, Lahaul Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Kalpa is one of the most beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh that you would love to visit again and again. This small and peaceful village is just about 5–6 km from Reckong Peo, the main town and district headquarters of Kinnaur. The whole valley around the Satluj River in this area is known as the Kinnaur Valley.

Kalpa village is famous for its green apple orchards, calm atmosphere, and amazing views of the Himalayas. The place feels like a dream, and it always attracts visitors who love stories and local traditions of the Kinnauri people.

Once, Kalpa used to be the district headquarters of Kinnaur before it was shifted to Reckong Peo. The village is surrounded by apple trees and green hills, making it a very peaceful and relaxing destination. There are only a few hotels (around five) in Kalpa Himachal Pradesh, mostly located along the road that goes towards Roghi Village. Since Kalpa is not an overcrowded tourist spot, you can easily find rooms here.

The houses in Kalpa village are built on different levels of the hill. Two main roads connect the upper and lower parts of the village. Most homes are on the lower road, while the hotels are on the upper one. You can use stone steps to walk between the two areas. As you walk along these paths, you’ll pass through beautiful apple orchards that fill the air with a sweet fragrance.

There are no big sightseeing points in Kalpa, but that is what makes it special. The best way to enjoy this place is to take a walk through the apple gardens, watch the mountain views, and feel the calmness all around. The local people follow both Hinduism and Buddhism, and you can see this cultural mix everywhere in the village.

There is also a small but lovely Buddhist temple near the post office where you can sit quietly and enjoy peace. Just behind the temple, the school ground offers a perfect view of the snow-covered Himalayan peaks—a great spot for photography lovers!

Kalpa Himachal Pradesh also has a small market with basic daily needs. For more shopping, people usually visit Reckong Peo nearby. After visiting the market and the monastery, take a short walk towards the apple orchards. You’ll pass by the small Tehsil building, and soon you’ll find yourself surrounded by red apples hanging on the trees—especially in September, when the orchards look the most beautiful.

If you love photography, Kalpa Himachal Pradesh is a heaven where every corner gives you stunning pictures of nature. During winter, the entire Kalpa village looks magical when covered in snow.

So, whether you are a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or someone who just wants a quiet escape from city life, Kalpa in Lahaul Spiti Valley is a destination that should be on your travel list.
