Damodar Kund is a holy Kund at the base of Girnar Hills in Junagadh, Gujarat. It is an important place for Hindus and people also believe this Kund is very holy. Many families come here to perform last rituals. Ashes and bones after death are put in this lake with the faith that the soul will get peace and moksha. The water here is also said to have the power to dissolve bones.
The lake is not very big in size. It is around 257 feet long and only 5 feet deep. A proper ghat is built around the lake, and the steps to climb Girnar Hills also start from this place. People of Junagadh feel that their mountains and kund are equally holy.
Near the kund, there are temples of Lord Damodar, Radha, Baladeva, and Goddess Vagheshwari. These temples are said to be made by a king named Chandraketpur. Close to Damodar Kund, there are two other small kund—Revati Kund and Mrigi Kund. Tourists take a dip there to wash away their sins.
This kund is also connected with the great poet Narsinh Mehta, who was a devotee of Lord Krishna. A temple of Narsinh Mehta is also found near the kund.
The place becomes very crowded during the Shivratri festival. A fair is also organized here on Amavasya of the Bhadarva month as per the Hindu calendar. With its natural charm and strong religious value, Damodar Kund is a place where people feel both peace and devotion.
