Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful nature park in Assam. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is about 50 kilometers from Guwahati city in Assam. It takes around 1.5 to 2 hours by car to reach here from Guwahati. The sanctuary has green grasslands, water areas, and small lakes. The best part is this park is not too big, you will almost surely see rhinos when you visit. The views are beautiful, especially in winter and after the rains. It's a perfect place for people who love animals, birds, and taking photos.
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary covers about 38.8 square kilometers of land. Pobitora is world-famous because it has the highest number of rhinos in one small area compared to any place on earth. This makes it very important for saving rhinos from disappearing. People come from all over India and abroad to see these rhinos. While Kaziranga National Park is bigger and more popular, Pobitora gives you a closer and more personal experience with rhinos. Here, you can see them from very close distance safely. The forest department and local people work together to protect these animals, which is another reason why Pobitora is respected worldwide.
Animals in Pobitora: Rhinos (One-Horned Rhinoceros): This is the main animal here! There are more than 100 rhinos living in this small area. You will definitely see them walking, eating grass, or bathing in water. Seeing these huge animals so close is truly amazing.
Other Animals: You can also spot wild buffaloes, leopards, wild pigs, deer, and some rare animals like pangolins. Leopards are shy, so you need good luck to see them. Early morning safaris give you better chances.
Birds in Pobitora: If you love birds, here, more than 375 types of birds visit this sanctuary. Some live here all year, and some come during winter from other countries. Some beautiful birds you can see are hornbills, kingfishers (small, colorful birds near water), eagles and hawks, storks and cranes, many types of ducks and geese, and colorful parrots and mynas. Winter is the best season for bird watching because many birds come here from cold countries.

The best time to visit Pobitora is November to March, when the weather is nice and wildlife sightings are at their best. Winter is also ideal for bird watching due to migratory species.
