If you are visiting Munnar, don't forget to visit Mattupetty dam; a must visit place located at just 12KM from Munnar city. The Mattupetty dam is surrounded by green lush jungle and the still water of reserve gives amazing reflection of tree plats. You can experience the nature by walking in surrounding area covered by tree.

There is a narrow road passes above the dam separating storage reserve and other part. You will atleast require 2-3 hours of time while exploring Mattupetty Dam and surrounding. You can also enjoy shopping from the small local market located near Mattupetty dam.

Mattupetty Dam is just about 13 km from the town and was constructed in the 1940s for the purpose of water conservation and hydroelectricity generation. Due to its constant water availability, the dam is now a vital source of electricity generation in Munnar and also a haven for many wild animals and birds.

By Air

The Cochin International Airport is the closest airport to the Mattupetty Dam munnar. The airport is located roughly 108 kilometres from the city of Munnar.

By Train

The nearest train station is Angamaly, which is 109 kilometres away. When you arrive in Munnar, you will travel from Angamaly to Aluva via Aluva.

By Road

You can easily reach Mattupetty by road if you take a taxi from the Angamaly railway station and then get into a shared cab until you reach Munnar.
