Sonamarg, Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir
Sonamarg or Sonmarg which means “meadow of gold”, located at an altitude of 2740m above the sea level. The word “Sona” means “Gold” in Hindi, and this golden beauty surrounded by snow capped mountain looks breathtaking during the spring season. And this way the place received its name Sonamarg. Sonamarg is the gateway to Ladakh and located at 87km from Srinagar just before the Zojii La pass. It is also base camp for the Amarnath yatra which organised during the month of July-August every year.
Beautiful Sonamarg is the best place for trekking, hiking trails, adventure and it is also the base camp for many trekking expeditions. Tourists can enjoy the natural Thajiwas Glacier, the Zero point, the Zojila Pass, Western Mountains as part of the sightseeing process. Best time for sightseeing is during summer between May - October and tourist can enjoy snowfall during winter, between November - April.
