Sonamarg or Sonmarg which means “meadow of gold”, located at an altitude of 2740m above the sea level. The word “Sona” means “Gold” in Hindi, and this golden beauty surrounded by snow capped mountain looks breathtaking during the spring season. And this way the place received its name Sonamarg. Sonamarg is the gateway to Ladakh and located at 87km from Srinagar just before the Zojii La pass. It is also base camp for the Amarnath yatra which organised during the month of July-August every year.

The nearest airport is Srinagar that is approximately 70 km away from the destination. Airlines such as GoAir, Air Asia, Indigo, and Air India cater in reaching to Srinagar.
There are regular private buses and state-run bases that are available from Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu is the nearest railway station for those traveling by railways. There are regular cabs available that help visitors reach Sonamarg.
Best time to visit Sonamarg
Best time for sightseeing is during summer between May - October and tourist can enjoy snowfall during winter, between November - April.
