The Laxmi Vilas Palace was built in 1890 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III who ruled the state of Baroda from 1875 to 1939. The palace covers an area of over 700 acres and is four times the size of Buckingham Palace. The palace has several wings & courtyards. It has a museum with a large collection of artworks, sculptures & other artifacts belonging to the Gaekwad dynasty. The palace also has a number of other attractions including a golf course, a cricket ground, a swimming pool and a tennis court.
