Banke Bihari Temple is one of the most famous and loved Krishna temples located in the heart of Vrindavan, Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna in the form of Banke Bihari, which means “the one who is bent in three places” (tribhanga posture) and attracts thousands of devotees every day.

As soon as you enter the narrow lanes of Vrindavan and reach the temple area, you can feel the spiritual energy. The chants of “Radhe Radhe” and “Banke Bihari Lal Ki Jai” create a powerful atmosphere that stays in your heart even after you leave.

Banke Bihari Temple is famous for its unique darshan style. Unlike other temples, there is no continuous aarti or bell ringing in front of the god. The curtain in front of Lord Krishna’s idol opens and closes every few seconds. Banke Bihari Temple History

The temple was established in 1864 by Swami Haridas, a great devotee and guru of the famous musician Tansen. It is believed that the idol of Banke Bihari appeared before Swami Haridas in Nidhivan after his intense devotion and prayers.

Originally, the idol was worshipped in Nidhivan itself. Later, a separate temple was built where the idol was shifted for regular worship. Since then, the temple has become one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Vrindavan.

Winter Timings (23rd Oct - 4th Mar):

1. Morning: 8:45 AM to 01:00 PM
2. Evening: 04:30 PM to 08:30 PM

Summer Timings (5th Mar - 10th Nov):

1. Morning: 07:45 AM to 01:00 PM
2. Evening: 05:30 AM to 08:30 PM

Banke Bihari Temple Entry Fees

There is no entry fee to visit Banke Bihari Temple. Darshan is completely free for all devotees.

Banke Bihari Temple Aarti Timing

🌼 Shringar Aarti:

1. Winter: 9:00 AM
2. Summer: 7:55 AM

This aarti takes place in the morning after the God is beautifully decorated.

🍛 Rajbhog Aarti:

Winter:

1. Morning: 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM
2. Evening: 7:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Summer:

1. Morning: 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM
2. Evening: 8:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Rajbhog Aarti is performed before the afternoon closing and again in the evening.

🌙 Shayan Aarti:

Winter:

1. Afternoon (before closing): 1:00 PM
2. Evening: 8:30 PM

Summer:

1. Afternoon (before closing): 12:00 Noon
2. Evening: 9:30 PM

Shayan Aarti is the final ritual before the temple closes for rest.

Festivals Celebrated at Banke Bihari Temple

Janmashtami:

Janmashtami is the biggest festival here. The temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and lights. Devotees gather in huge numbers to celebrate Lord Krishna’s birth at midnight.

Holi in Banke Bihari Temple:

Holi celebration here is world-famous. Flower Holi (Phoolon Ki Holi) and traditional colors make it a magical experience. Devotees sing bhajans and celebrate with great joy.
