Explore Purkhouti Muktangan through captivating images that showcase their rich culture, history, and charm.

Purkhouti Muktangan is an open-air cultural heritage park located on NH-6 near Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh. It is about 22 km from the center of Raipur city. The park was built to preserve and display the rich tribal culture and folk traditions of Chhattisgarh for visitors who want to understand the heritage of the state without travelling to distant tribal areas. It is one of the most distinctive cultural attractions in central India.
The name Purkhouti Muktangan comes from two Chhattisgarhi words. Purkhouti means "the land of our ancestors" and Muktangan means "an open courtyard." Together the name reflects the purpose of the park — a free, open space dedicated to the memory and heritage of Chhattisgarh's tribal ancestors. The park displays life-size replicas of tribal huts, traditional tools, folk art, and cultural objects from the various communities of the state.
This park is a good option for visitors who are interested in tribal culture, art, and the history of Chhattisgarh's many communities. It is also suitable for school groups and families with children. The entry fee is very affordable and the park is well maintained by the state tourism authority.

Purkhouti Muktangan was built by the Chhattisgarh government as part of its effort to promote the state's tribal heritage and create a cultural tourism destination near the capital. The park was inaugurated in 2006 when Raipur hosted the National Games. It was designed to give visitors a look at the many communities and traditions that make up Chhattisgarh's cultural landscape.
Chhattisgarh is home to many tribal communities including the Gond, Baiga, Halba, Muria, and Korwa groups, among others. Each of these communities has its own distinct style of housing, art, music, and dress. Purkhouti Muktangan brings elements from all these communities into one space, so visitors can compare and appreciate the differences and similarities between them.
The park features full-size models of traditional tribal structures including Ghotul (the community hall used by the Muria tribe), decorated mud huts, grain stores, and grain-cleaning areas. Statues and paintings showing various folk art traditions of Chhattisgarh are also displayed throughout the park grounds.
Purkhouti Muktangan near Raipur is famous for being the most complete open-air display of tribal culture in Chhattisgarh. It offers a structured way to learn about communities whose lifestyles are otherwise only seen in remote forest areas of the state.
