Periyar National Park, Thekkady, Kerala

Periyar National Park also known as Periyar Tiger Reserve, is in the mountainous Western Ghats of Kerala, southern India. This wildlife sanctuary is home to tigers and a significant elephant population. Periyar National Park is famous for its forests and wide range of wildlife. It was known as a tiger reserve in 1978 and formally established in 1982. It spans an area of 925 sq km. It is also part of the World Heritage site under UNESCO. The park is named after the Periyar River.
