The Chennakeshava Temple is a Hindu temple that was built by Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana on the banks of the Yagachi River in Belur, Karnataka. It is also called as Vijayanarayana temple.

Chennakesava Temple is an excellent example of Hoysala architecture. The temple is known locally as Kalasagar and kmown for its stunning carvings and excellent sculptures. There are about 80 Madanika statues in the temple, dancing, hunting, standing beneath tree canopies, and so on. The beauty is so expressive that one may feel life inside these non- iving stone sculptures.

Vishnuvardhan constructed the Belur temple in 1117 AD. This architectural wonder took 103 years to create, over three generations of the royal family. Over 1000 artisans are reported to have contributed to the creation of this marvel in stone. The temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu, also known as Chennakesava, which means "lovely (chenna) Vishnu" (Keshava).
